UFC 306 Quick Picks Recap

In the name of honesty, last week we went 2-1 in the quick picks. This parlay only lost because of a massive upset in RD1. Good read, bad luck.

Opening Parlay: Rosas Jr (-900) + Van (-258) + OVER 2.5 in Jauregei vs Souza (-270) = +111

The next two I crushed, methods were incorrect (both decisions) however the ML picks (always ML picks first then breakdown then method guess) were spot on.

I’m going to count it?

Valentina Shevchenko (+110) vs. Alexa Grasso (-130)

Merab Dvalishvili (-105) vs. Sean O’Malley (-115)

LISTENER HOT TAKES

Dovy’s first appearance here, welcome DovySimuMMA

So a couple of people sent me this actually and I had to share because it’s laugh out loud funny.

I could see Sean O’Malley, who revealed he’ll likely be out a year with a torn labrum in his hip, doing a hilarious set of sketches on his YouTube with this concept.

Here’s the interesting part though…

I’m not sure a year In Dagestan would even do It.

Let’s take a look at the stats of that UFC 306 Main-Event tilt between newly crowned champion Merab Dvalisvhili and the now former champ Sean O’Malley.

Merab landed 214 total strikes to Sean’s 49… TWO HUNDRED FOURTEEN TO FOURTY NINE.

That is an insane work rate from “The Machine”, against a foe who was supposed to have a marked striking advantage especially at range. From moment 1 it seemed that Merab was one step ahead of everything, even going as far as to salute at O’Malley when he narrowly missed a spinning heel kick.

Let’s keep looking at these stats shall we…

So yes, Merab started this fight very strong, landing 2 of 3 takedowns and spending nearly 1.5 mins of the 5 on the clock for RD1. He only outstruck “Suga” by 11 landed strikes. It was a clear Merab round but nothing too dominant.

Then RD2 happened, Merab would outland Sean O’Malley by 59 strikes and landed the only takedown he needed to net 3 mins of control time. RD3 was closer but still a round where Merab landed more strikes, however, Sean defended all 5 of the takedowns. It seemed if the tide was to turn it would have to be now. O’Malley’s wrestling actually to me felt like the strongest part of his night relative to how we all expected him to perform.

RD4 was another clear Merab round, and then RD5 is the round many are giving to O’Malley. Here’s the thing though…it wasn’t a wrestling-dominant performance…

It was a purely dominant performance.

Merab Dvalishvili is the new UFC 135lbs champion and he did it by defeated the incumbent champ Sean O’Malley in DOMINANT fashion in EVERY REALM of MMA. It was a pure master class that not even a trip to Dagestan can likely solve for O’Malley, who goes back to the drawing board now for the likely next 12 months, and a slew of potential killers to match up against once he returns.

DISAGREE 👎👎👎
